David Votruba, PhD, LMSW , PhD
The individuals, couples, and families with whom I work are interested in understanding and addressing not only certain specific emergent problems such as those associated with adjustment and relationship difficulties, depression, and anxiety, but also the underlying thoughts, feelings, and behavioral and relational patterns that have contributed to the development of these problems. Through a collaborative, empathic psychotherapeutic process, these individuals, couples, and families expand and utilize their skills, strengths, and self-understanding in order to live more meaningful and rewarding lives.
I earned my MSW from the University of Michigan School of Social Work in 2002 and my PhD from the Smith College School for Social Work in 2008 and completed my MSW and PhD internships at the UofM Psychological Clinic. I graduated from the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute adult psychoanalytic training program in 2017 and was appointed to the faculty in 2018.
In addition to my private psychotherapy practice, I teach and supervise psychotherapists, psychoanalytic candidates, and other clinicians. In the past, I worked for the University of Michigan's Division of Student Affairs where I developed and managed alcohol and other drug-related educational programming.
