Matt Bouse, LMSW
My clients often believe they are a burden to others. They think they need to be perfect to be loved and that it would overwhelm others to know how they really feel. These beliefs leave them feeling anxious, lonely, ashamed and unhappy. They often isolate and use pornography, video games or substances to numb themselves. They may seek advice online, but find this information unhelpful. They may beat themselves up in frustration and believe they are failing themselves and their loved ones.
People often contact me in pursuit of: better relationships; security and trust to express their needs; greater motivation and energy; improved sleep, concentration and clarity; a greater sense of control over their life; and the confidence to be their authentic selves. They are seeking active participation in a life that has value and meaning. As we build a safe, collaborative relationship, we work on many of the following tasks: identifying anxiety and shame triggers, existing coping skills, barriers to their use and how you want things to be; learning about anxiety, grief, trauma and other concepts; practicing noticing, naming and learning from your emotions; validating your needs and experiences; vocalizing what you need others to understand about you; and celebrating your hard work.
Many of my clients believe they are bad people, despite much evidence that this is untrue. I think my most important function as a therapist is to help people understand that their emotions are valid, normal and do not need to be feared or hidden away. I love seeing clients learn they are capable and worthy of love. When they understand this truth, they often get unstuck, feel greater control over their life, form secure relationships and make progress towards their goals. I have refined my techniques and skills over years of experience as a therapist. In addition, I draw on my rich, diverse set of personal experiences and identities. Outside of therapy, I enjoy running, watching old movies and anime, playing video games, sewing and much more. I can often be found listening to a podcast about a classic film, a memorable video game or a forgotten pop song.
I am currently able to accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Blue Care Complete and Meridian insurance plans. Out-of-pocket options are also available.
